Pale horse in a chamomile field at high noon

The Folio · On authorship

Directed by the artist

If a picture was made with AI, say so. Authorship belongs to the person who directed it — not to the software, and not to a story that hides the tool.

There is a fashion for hiding the machine. A picture appears. A story is told about a studio, a morning, a chance meeting with light. The software stays in the next room, unnamed. That is a poor habit. If a picture was made with AI, the record should say so — and it should also say that a person directed it. If that sentence makes the picture less magical for you, the picture was never going to hold. Magic that needs a lie is a trick. Tricks expire.

Authenticity, here, is not a claim that no software was used. It is a claim that a person chose. They chose the weather, the crop, and a subject that has not been used here before. They chose whether the picture stays private, whether someone is invited, whether it is offered for a grade, whether it may appear on a public wall. They chose one, three, or five. That is more authorship than a thousand undirected files in a folder named Final_v18.

What a mill is

A mill is a place that wants more pictures than it can look at. It measures itself in volume. It repeats a composition because the composition performed. It darkens the corners because darkness looks like importance. It will sell you the same horse, the same fog, the same gold object on a table, and call each one unique because the file name changed.

A serious house refuses that in the credits and in the pictures. You cannot make without end. A welcome still is one private picture. Paid packs are one-time, and they stack; they are not a subscription that turns the place into a faucet. Grades are limited. The public wall is curated. A picture that is only a mood already shown will not be shown again as if it were news.

A certificate is a sentence you can check

Serials begin FA. Older valid ones begin LP. You can verify them. A certificate of authenticity for AI art is not a wax-seal fantasy. It is a record: this picture, this artist, this disclosure. If someone later claims the picture was a photograph they took on a cliff, the certificate will disagree. If someone claims it was made by no one, the certificate will disagree. Disagreement is what records are for.

Collectors who care about provenance have always wanted paper that survives the story. Search engines will call this AI art authenticity. The plainer name is not pretending.

You follow a person, not a model

You do not follow a model. You follow an artist. Their public room is a sequence of decisions. If those decisions hold together, you are seeing a person, not a prompt slot. Follow is a small word for a large permission: let their next picture find you without you hunting the wall every morning.

Specific is the opposite of generic. Authorship lives in the specific.

If you make pictures here, the brief is yours. On some plans a helper can write the brief; the helper is not the author. You are. A grade, if you ask for one, is a consideration, not a personality. S, A, and B can appear on the public wall. C and D stay in the collection. That is not a humiliation. It is a house that will not pretend every picture is an exhibition.

If you came from Google looking for AI generated art, or an AI art exhibition, or a certificate you can trust: look at a picture. Read the label after. If you want a sheet in a room, a Standard print can ship from a public still. If you want the numbered work, inquire. If you want to direct a picture of your own, make one.
